Maria Maia

Maria Maia is an architect, guest lecturer and PhD student at the School of Architecture, Arts and Design of the University of Minho (EAAD.UM), in Guimarães, Portugal.
Since 2022, she has been teaching the subject "Movements in contemporary art and architecture" in the Integrated Master's in Architecture and since 2023 in the Bachelor's in Product Design.
She has been a member of the multidisciplinary research unit Lab2PT since 2024, where she is developing her PhD project at the intersection of the disciplines of Architecture, History and Psychiatry, focusing on the possibility of thinking about psychiatric spaces as architectures of care.
In 2017, she attended a specialization course in scenography at EAAD.UM.
Between 2020 and 2022, she studied contemporary philosophy in the Master's Degree in Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, having worked for the Institute of Philosophy in the groups MLAG (Mind, Language, and Action Group) and Raízes e Horizontes.
As a researcher, she collaborated on research on several topics, namely, pedagogy and research, landscape and literature, and heritage conservation.
She has worked on several architectural projects in the areas of social housing, collective participation practices, public space, and artistic expression.
She is a member of the Integral Cooperative CESTA, in Porto, Portugal.

Professor Associado com Agregação da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra onde ensina, entre outras, História da Farmácia e Atividade Farmacêutica. Investigador e Co-Coordenador Científico do Grupo de História e Sociologia da Ciência do Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares - CEIS20 da Universidade de Coimbra do qual foi um dos fundadores. Membro do Centro de Direito Biomédico. Os seus interesses científicos principais são: história da ciência, história e sociologia da farmácia e das ciências da saúde, relações farmácia sociedade, ética em saúde e bioética, deontologia farmacêutica, regulação farmacêutica e legislação, educação para a saúde. Co-cordenador do curso de doutoramento em História das Ciências e Educação Científica (Universidade de Coimbra / Universidade de Aveiro, desde 2022). Orientou e orienta diversas monografias de mestrado integrado, teses de mestrado e de doutoramento, pesquisas de pós-doutoramento e monografias de pós-graduação da sua área científica em Direito da Farmácia e do Medicamento. Doutorada em História da Cultura (Universidade de Coimbra) com a tese “Darwin em Portugal. Filosofia. História. Engenharia Social 1865-1914” (2 vols.). Professora da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra (Departamento de História, Estudos Europeus, Arqueologia e Artes), aposentada. Investigadoar e Co-Coordenadora Científica do Grupo de História e Sociologia da Ciência do Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares - CEIS20 da Universidade de Coimbra do qual foi um dos investigadores fundadores. Lecionou disciplinas da área da história da cultura, da história da cultura científica e da história da ciência a nível dos três ciclos, e outras disciplinas. Os seus interesses de investigação preferenciais são: história da cultura, história da cultura científica, história das ideias, história das ideias científicas, história da medicina, história da farmácia, história das ciências da vida, sublinhando-se projetos sobre a história do corpo, a história da psiquiatria, a história da higiene e da saúde pública, a história da farmácia, dos alimentos, medicamentos e venenos, bem como a história do darwinismo em Portugal. Cristina Nogueira

Cristina Nogueira has a degree in History, with specialisations in Educational Training and Information Sciences, from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra, and Cultural Heritage Management, from the Católica Porto Business School.
Over the last twenty years, she has worked for various institutions in areas such as training and education, historical research, archiving and museology.
More than a decade ago, she founded the registered brand CulturAge, under which she currently provides professional services in the areas of history and cultural heritage management.
Since 2017, she has been working with the Centro de Medicina de Reabilitação da Região Centro - Rovisco Pais to safeguard and revitalize the cultural and scientific heritage of the former Hospital Colónia Rovisco Pais, and is the curator of its Museum Center, the only one dedicated to leprosy in Portugal.

She was coordinator of the Doctoral Program in History, Philosophy and Heritage of Science and Technology (2016-2021) and is a guest lecturer at NOVA Medical School.
She co-coordinates the CIUHCT and has published on the History of Science and Medicine in Portugal, in the contemporary period.
He is part of European networks (RIIESSAL, COST CA 22116 and CA 22156) and is part of the editorial board of some reference journals in his research area, such as the journals HoST and Medical History.

She is also an integrated researcher at the Laboratory of Landscapes, Heritage and Territory (Lab2PT) of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho, where she coordinates the Lands group, an integrated member of IN2PAST, the Associated Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory, and a collaborating researcher at the Center for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies of the Catholic University of Portugal.

Her area of research is the Social and Cultural History of Portugal from the 16th century to the first decades of the 20th, focusing mainly on the 18th and 19th centuries, to work on, among other topics, welfare and health in Portugal.
